Have you ever had a thought that you were sure you would never forget? A notion that you were convinced could change the world or deliver you to financial independence? David Allen, author of the book “Getting Things Done”, believes that capturing anything and everything is the first step towards productively and constructively addressing a goal. In other words, a thought is just the beginning to fulfillment.
Today is an incredible time to be alive—simultaneously exciting, and overwhelming. Notwithstanding the digital divide that exists between distinct groups (defined on social, geographical, or geopolitical criteria), access to information is decreasingly determined by wealth or locale. Now it is largely determined by one’s curiosity and initiative. The internet has given many of us the confidence and tools to learn just about anything.
YouTube and Reddit have become our classrooms – the folks behind the videos or posts, our professors. There are countless ways to tackle a problem or achieve a goal today, few of which require formal education or shelling out exorbitant amounts of cash.
The DIY project inspired through youtube; the language learned through an app; the virtual yoga instructor guiding you in the comfort of your own home. There’s a confidence that accompanies this capability—a compounding surety that we can do/learn/make/or discover pretty much anything.
ThoughtNotion is a site that touches on a variety of topics: Meditation, mental health, wellness, language, travel, and (of course) food, to name a few. It is a site that is meant to be as undefined as its name. A site with all of the plasticity and ephemerality of a thought or notion.
Like David Allen’s approach, this project started with capturing an idea, clarifying what it meant, and organizing the actions and information embedded in it. What was a personal project has since evolved into a team effort.
If you’ve learned something new, got something to say, or have a unique insight on an existing problem—we want to hear from you
The world has never been more interesting than it is today. We take for granted how the technological advancements of the last 20 years have enriched the fabric of our everyday lives. Our ability to connect has never been so fiberoptic.
There has never been a greater need for interconnectedness than today—a place to share ideas, or a space to help turn goals into achievements. For many of us the events of the day (be them negative or positive) have catalyzed a cascade of opportunities for personal growth and introspection. A forced slow down has served us all an opportunity for increased introspection. This in turn has allowed many of us to break the chain of the “day-to-day” and to reflect on what is really important.
The main purpose of this project is to bring people and ideas together. The timing, in my opinion, is perfect.
There is a new generation of “Infobahn Intellectuals” out there and they need a home. ThoughtNotion is a place for these curious cats to put those notions into motion. An information circular for a subset of people interested in genres and topics that were once too esoteric to pursue—or worse yet, impossible to find. Most importantly, it is a space to show the world the things that make you, you.

May our souls be dyed with the colour of the thoughts of today, because it is today where anything is possible.
